Mantastic Summer 2026: Manta Season in the Maldives, Made Unforgettable

Every year, as the southwest monsoon stirs the Indian Ocean, something extraordinary happens in the Maldives. Plankton-rich currents sweep into the atolls, and with them come the ocean’s most graceful giants. Manta rays gather in numbers that have to be seen to be believed – spiralling, barrel-rolling, and feeding in formation, while whale sharks glide through the blue on their own unhurried patrol. From July to October, the Maldives becomes one of the finest places on Earth to share the water with the marine life.

This is the season we built Mantastic Summer around.

Six Weeks, Two Legendary Routes

Mantastic Summer 2026 runs across five weekly departures aboard Maldives Legend Sea Pleasure, from 08 August to 26 September 2026. Each 8-day, 7-night voyage follows one of two carefully crafted routes and for those shorter on time, both can be customised to 6D/5N or 5D/4N itineraries that trim days from the middle of the route while keeping every signature experience intact.

Best of Maldives

Our classic central route lives up to its name. Sailing from Malé through North Ari, South Ari and Vaavu, this itinerary packs in 17 dives structured and improvised by our Maldivian dive leads, who read the current and visibility with the kind of in-depth local knowledge that only comes from a lifetime in these waters. Expect sharks, rays, wrecks and thriving reefs — with highlights including the famous Manta Night dive, the search for whale sharks, schooling nurse sharks, and the dives at Hulhumale’ Neru.

Hanifaru + North Ari

For those who want manta season at its absolute peak, this route heads north to Baa Atoll — home of Hanifaru Bay, the world’s most celebrated manta aggregation site. Snorkel above cleaning stations where mantas gather in remarkable numbers, then explore Baa Atoll’s dive sites, rich in both macro life and large pelagics. The journey continues to North Ari for the Manta Night dive, Maya Thila, Rasdhoo Atoll, and a Sandbank BBQ night under the stars.

Life Aboard Sea Pleasure

A cherished favourite among our repeat guests, Sea Pleasure is a 30-metre liveaboard built in 2020 by master Maldivian craftsmen – cosy charm and thoughtful design across four decks. Days revolve around the water; everything in between revolves around comfort: a spacious saloon with restaurant-style dining and a well-stocked bar, a sun deck with jacuzzi and loungers, and shaded exterior spaces for the moments between dives. Cabins range from Seaview cabins with private balconies to Family cabins ideal for those travelling together, each with en suite bathrooms and hot water showers.

And Mantastic Summer isn’t only for divers. Non-divers are warmly welcome – Hanifaru Bay itself is a snorkelling experience, and between island hopping, fishing, the Sandbank BBQ dinner and life on deck, the week is every bit as rich above the surface as below it.

An Offer Worth Surfacing For

To mark the season, all Mantastic Summer departures carry an exclusive flat 30% discount — and for those travelling with dive buddies, friends or family, exclusive group offers make it even easier to fill a cabin or two together. Manta season comes once a year; this is the summer to make it yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is manta season in the Maldives?
The southwest monsoon, roughly May to November, brings plankton-rich waters — with July to October widely considered the peak, especially at Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll. Mantastic Summer’s departures are timed precisely for this window.

Do I need to be a certified diver to join?
Hanifaru Bay encounters are snorkelling-based, and non-divers can enjoy snorkelling, island hopping, fishing, excursions and everything on board. Certified divers enjoy the full dive programme of up to 17 dives with 2–3 dive guides.

Which route should I choose?
If mantas are your priority, Hanifaru + North Ari is the season’s showpiece. If you want the broadest taste of the Maldives — sharks, wrecks, reefs and mantas alike — Best of Maldives delivers exactly that. Either way, our team is happy to help you choose.

How long are the trips?
The full experience is 8 days / 7 nights, with customisable 6D/5N and 5D/4N options that keep the signature experiences intact.
